Tonight, Google began another round of needless layoffs. Our members and teammates work hard every day to build great products for our users, and the company cannot continue to fire our coworkers while making billions every quarter. We won’t stop fighting until our jobs are safe!

I still have a job.
Hundreds of my coworkers suddenly do not .
You may recall that I am a member of the Alphabet Worker’s Union. This is exactly the kind of event that we organize toward. Our membership will jump after this event, just like it did after the First Layoff last January.
It will not jump enough to get to a level where we can call an organizing vote as a bargaining unit across the whole company (among our wins we already have a couple of barganing units, and Google is reacting to them about as you’d expect ).
But that doesn’t mean our union is powerless. We are at the forefront of providing support to our impacted peers, right now.
Because solidarity, is power.
